Phil Metzger - Spontaneous Composition Generator
Milo Fine - Moosbruger
Milo Fine - Ulrich
Limited edition of 421 copies. A split album of solo performances. Three extended length tracks, ranging from 9 to 18 minutes each. Free-jazz improv master/multi-instrumentalist Fine's pieces feature, respectively, improvisations on (1), clarinet and prepared piano remains, and (2), drum. Metzger performs a sidelong composition on his creation, the Spontaneous Composition Generator. This device consists of 37 altered music box movements mounted in a wooden painter's box; the alterations include dampening, detuning, replacing, removing, doubling, and reversing the tines. Metzger has played on bills with artists such as Six Organs Of Admittance and Sir Richard Bishop, and was a favorite of the late Jack Rose. Fine has been active in improvised music for 30 years, collaborating with the likes of Derek Bailey, Lol Coxhill, Gavin Bryars, and Evan Parker. Covers are screen-printed onto wax paper sleeves, with a rice paper insert.
